[Press Release] Youth In Arts (YIA) Theatre Company is pleased to announce receipt of a generous contribution from one of its “Friends of the Arts”, Unity for UK St. Lucian Associations, a not for profit community of St. Lucians, living in St. Lucia, and the United Kingdom. This gift will support Youth in Arts (YIA) Annual Production, “Masquerade Master”, to be staged on November 1st and 2nd.
Unity, as it is affectionately called, has been supporting and serving the needs of our St. Lucian communities for over 5o years. Committed to local causes, Unity has impacted the most worthy causes through its humanitarian donations and efforts.
YIA Theatre Company, in its efforts to provide for quality theatrical and cultural experiences to its members and the public, embarks annually on fundraising ventures, welcoming the generosity of corporate citizens and interested persons. One of its most recent initiatives, was the formation of “Friends-of-the-Arts” Programme in 2016. Only 2 years old, this Programme has brought together St. Lucians at home and in the Diaspora, who each donate money for the year towards the main Production. It is through this Programme that a relationship was formed with Unity for UK St. Lucian Associations, under the Chairmanship of Ms. Felicia Hippolyte.
Mrs. June Frederick, the Company’s Founder and Producer has expressed utter delight with the donation and is happy that persons have recognized the need to support the work of The Company for the young people of St. Lucia. “Theatre”, she says, “not only develops skills for the stage, but also encourages a level of discipline, team-work, time management, commitment, confidence and self-esteem, that young people need for life”. She would like to thank the Association and others who continue to contribute to the Arts, and hope that this will encourage others to do the same.
