The unemployment rate continues to hover stubbornly above 20% in Saint Lucia. The first quarter job numbers for 2018 are in from the Central Statistics Office.
The unemployment rate which was 23.1% in the last quarter of 2017 now stands at 21.8% in the first quarter of 2018.
However that is 1.8 percentage points higher than the same period in 2017. There were marginal increases and declines in all the major employment sectors.
That includes the tourism industry which shrank by more than 2 percentage points compared to corresponding period in 2017.
