Barbados’ cultural ambassador and legendary calypsonian Anthony “Mighty Gabby” Carter is in St. Lucia to headline the first-class concert – legacy.
The special calypso festival is slated for May 4th at the National Cultural Center.
It will feature veteran local calypsonians – De Ashanti, reigning monarch Pep, TC Brown, Herb Black and Educator.
Gabby was awarded the legend award at the inaugural Barbados Music Awards in 2006 and has St. Lucian roots.
Mighty Gabby is known for famous tunes like “burn Mr. Harding”, “West Indian politician”, and “Dr. Cassandra.”
The artist’s 1982 single “Jack” (dah beach is mine) makes a strong case for the preservation of Caribbean beaches.
Mighty Gabby is the youngest Barbadian calypsonian to win the crown at the age of 19 in 1968 and went on to capture several more titles.
