Press Release- The St. Lucia Football Association Inc. has forged yet another partnership with three organisations to ensure the continued development and sustenance of Primary School Football in Saint Lucia.
On Tuesday 2nd October 2018, the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. partnered with the Ministries of Education and Sports as well with the Saint Lucia National Lotteries in hosting the Official Launch of the 2018 Primary Schools Football Championship.
It is expected that 79 Primary Schools will benefit from this project as they compete within their respective educational districts. It is also expected that each of the eight educational districts will populate a representative district team that will compete against each other.
The Primary Schools Program will also see coaches being assigned to the districts who will work alongside the various teams and districts leading up to the championship.
The Association will lend support to the various schools on a one on one basis to ensure that they maintain and further develop football throughout the year. Each district team will be presented with a set of uniforms that will be used during this stage of the championship.
The Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. is able to undertake this important program through funding from FIFA and CONCACAF and more importantly through the development of the coaches that have been trained to undertake the preparation of the players in the schools.
It is expected that over 750 players will compete at the district level whereas over 1,500 students from the 79 Primary Schools will be exposed to the rudiments of football.
At the Launch of the Primary School Football Program, Ms. Malaika Church, FIFA Development Coordinator and Mr. Howard Mcintosh, Program Manager for the One CONCACAF Program at CONCACAF addressed the Ceremony along with other representatives of the various partners with the concluding remarks by Mr. Lyndon Cooper, President of the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc.
Various teachers, students and members of the Media were all on hand to witness this historic event.
