SRDF and Slippery Rock University Engage in Extensive Capacity Building and Philanthropic Exercises

Soufriere, St Lucia- The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation in its endeavour to fulfil its mandate for the improvement of the human resource capital in Soufriere, has funded a series of Non Profit Development workshops.

The capacity building exercise was organized by Mr. Dominic Alexander, owner of BrightLight Consulting; management and organizational development specialist, and facilitated by Slippery Rock University.

This occasion marked the seventh time that the Soufriere region has benefited from the learning institution’s benevolence.

Professor Alice Delvacchio, stated that they continue to come because of the gentleness of the people. “It was a privilege for us to be here. The people here are good people. They have a big heart, great skills, and big dreams but sometimes they do not have everything they need to make all that come together.”  

Learning institutions and various humanitarian organizations within the Soufriere region were the beneficiaries of an in depth capacity building exercise. The exercise comprised of a variety of workshops which focused on Organizational Leadership, Recruitment and Retention Board Governance and development, Fund Raising, Youth Leadership, Special Education and Learning Strategies among others.

Slippery Rock University is a member of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The University provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that intentionally combines academic instruction with enhanced educational and learning opportunities that will help them succeed in their lives, professional careers and be engaged citizens.

The institution’s generosity continued on Friday January 12th, 2018, with a donation of 280 pairs of sandals to the Soufriere Foundation and Soufriere Lions Club in an effort to be presented to the schools. The university also contributed learning materials and text books to the schools including 6 footballs, 288 dental kits, 20 science training manual, and 20 stress balls.

The Soufriere Foundation is a not for profit organisation located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, economic, cultural and other sustainable developments in the Soufriere region.  The organization which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Center, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.
