The Saint Lucia Labour Party says the recent rise in fuel prices will no doubt add to the burdens of the average citizen.
The party’s spokesman on fisheries says it is not just a case of people paying more at the pumps. He says the petrol price hike will deal a hard blow to fishers.
Government recently removed the $12.75 cap on gasoline and diesel at the pump. It followed a $1.50 increase in the excise tax on fuel, from $2.50 to $4.00.
Opposition Leader Philip J. Pierre says it’s clear that the economics is flawed. He says government is working on a revenue stream over which it has no control.
As of Monday April 25th, the retail price of gas and diesel was $13.35 and $13.23 a gallon respectively.
