The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Incorporated is calling on member Federations to commit to preparing their athletes so the best talent can emerge to represent Saint Lucia at regional and International events.
President of the SLOC Inc, Senator, the Honourable Fortuna Belrose urged Federations to stay on course for the realisation of quality performances from those who are involved in the sport that they govern.
” There is a need to ensure that w e have quality people in our organisations……… and to develop the quality of athletes when we go out to represent our country. Soon we will be competing in some major international games like the Commonwealth games, CAC Games and Youth Olympics and we need the best to represent us ,” Belrose said while addressing athletes and administrators of three affiliates who will be participating in upcoming CAC qualifiers.
The qualifying disciplines will be Karate in Colombia, Taekwondo and Boxing in Mexico.
” If we commit to making that difference it can be achieved. It’s not difficult to achieve this. The support systems are there for you. We have to take advantage of this. Plan early, not last minute, ” the SLOC Inc President added while speaking at the Headquarters of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee.
Secretary General of the SLOC Inc, Alfred Emmanuel emphasised that the time has come for the island to produce results for the resources being allocated to athletes in respect of their preparation for competition in events they are entered .
” We have committed financial resources so our athletes can perform. While we are prepared to commit the financial resources, we have a responsibility as administrators to show slate when we are at international events. We can’t be there only to say that we have spent a million dollars giving our Federations to prepare and we have nothing to show for that,” said Emmanuel.
