The National Security and Home Affairs Ministry is working to establish by February a committee to oversee the National Crime Symposium report.
In November 2017, a wide cross section of St. Lucian representatives deliberated on a plan of action to arrest rising crime.
One of the most pressing issues was the unprecedented homicide rate.
Minister Hermangild Francis says come next month the committee will start implementing some of the recommendations.
The committee will also take a closer look at crime prevention particularly support for at-risk youth.
Francis referenced the recently launched ‘taking our kids back as an example.
The National Security Minister says the report has been circulated to every member of Cabinet and he is awaiting feedback.
Shouldn’t the review committee be in place at the time of the symposium so that the report and therefore recommendations could be implemented ASAP?
