Security Minister hold talks with police force

[Press Release] Ahead of International Labour Day on Tuesday, May 1st, Minister for Home Affairs, Justice and National Security Senator the Honourable Hermingild Francis is looking forward to holding fruitful and meaningful discussions with members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF). The Minister will meet with the Southern Division on April 25, 2018 at the National Skills Development Center (NDSC). The meeting will commence at 10:00 a.m.

Minister Francis says this meeting will be followed by another with the Northern Division on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Finance Administrative Centre, located in Pointe Seraphine, Castries.

He explained his perspective that it is very important that workers who provide national service in any capacity be provided with opportunities to be heard directly by policymakers.

“I always believe as Minister that I should meet with those who may be seen as the ordinary police officer, those who pound the beat and man the police stations and so on. They are not ordinary but actually are invaluable to our national security. We recognize that they would have their own issues and I believe it is good to give them the opportunity to speak with the Minister and not always go through the Commissioner of Police.”

Minister Francis says the Commissioner of Police will be present so as to hear the concerns and observations first-hand, as well as note proposed solutions.  Uppermost on his agenda he says is to boost morale.

“I want to congratulate them on the wonderful job they have been doing. This year I think they have been doing a wonderful job and I want to encourage them to continue. There are a few issues that we will discuss that are not matters that enhance the Police Force so we have to discuss this as frankly as possible.”

Minister Francis is also hoping to discuss budgetary allocations assigned to the Royal Saint Lucia Police for the new financial year 2018/19, as well highlight  the benefits and projects that will be implemented to ensure the welfare of the Police.

Minister Francis also takes the opportunity to congratulate all workers on the occasion of upcoming Labour Day celebrations particularly those under his watch inclusive of the St. Lucia Fire Service, the Bordelais Correctional Facility, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Justice and National Security.
