Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has welcomed ex-Prime Minister and current Vieux Fort South MP, Dr. Kenny Anthony’s defence of two young men from Vieux Fort who were charged by police for using obscenities.
A social media video was posted recently with the young men complaining about the duration of the Assou Square activities in Vieux Fort.
Dr. Anthony who strongly condemned the charges laid against the young men warns of what he calls a dangerous development regarding freedom of expression, pointing to political overtones.
Chastanet who says he is not familiar with the incident was asked by reporters to weigh-in on the matter.
A press release issued by the Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort South, on Friday asserted that the two young Vieux-Fortians were expressing frustration with the Allen Chastanet administration especially were arrested and charged last weekend.
However, the Prime Minister Chastanet again has denied knowledge of the incident.
Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has encouraged members of the public to contribute to a “defence fund,” details of which he says will be provided later, to assist the young men to meet their legal expenses.”
