PM ON HEWANORRA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT

The Parliament of St. Lucia convened on Tuesday to debate and vote on a motion, seeking to authorize the Minister for Finance to secure a loan of one hundred million us dollars for the re-development of the Hewanorra International Airport (HIA). At the heart of Tuesday’s lively debate in parliament, is the competing approaches to funding the development of the airport.

  1. I agree with the prime minister’s course of action; the loan terms and agreement,. This upgrade of Hewanorra airport facilities is long overdue. The original facility proved inadequate about a decade after it was constructed (early 1980s). The addition undertaken during the 1990s was inadequate because it failed to match the pace of hotel construction on the island. My simple common sense, layman’s thoughts on the matter.
