[Press Release] The National Association of Librarians and Information Professionals (NALIP-St Lucia) celebrates National Library and Information week (NLIW) 2018 under the theme ‘Libraries and Information Centers: Collaboratively Engaging Communities’.
This year’s observance will be held from April 16-21, with activities planned by the National Library and Information Week Committee – a sub-committee of the National Association of Library and Information Professionals (Saint Lucia). The NLIW activities are as follows:
Monday April 16, 2018- Opening of Library Week:
Opening Ceremony of NLIW 2018 will be held at the Cultural Development Foundation’s Conference Room, Barnard Hill from 9:30 am. The feature address for the morning will be given by the Honorary Chair for Library and Information Week 2018, Mr. Giovanni St Omer as the Association strives to ensure that stakeholders understand the value and impact of library and information centers in communities through collaborative engagements. The inaugural NALIP Saint Lucia Newsletter “Newsbytes” will be launched and the official logo for the Association will be featured. The day continues with an afternoon retreat for library and information workers.
Tuesday April 17, 2018- Open Day:
Libraries and Information Centers island wide will showcase their services to the public
Wednesday April 18, 2018- Symposium:
Library and Information workers and other stakeholders are invited to a symposium at the Cultural Development Foundation’s Conference Room, Barnard Hill from 9:30 am to 4pm.
Thursday April 19, 2018- Patron Appreciation Day:
‘Patron Appreciation Day’ – Libraries and Information Units show appreciation to users for their continued patronage.
Friday April 20, 2018- Community Outreach:
This year’s outreach activity will be a donation to the Bordelais Correctional Facility Library to complement their existing collection which would further help in the self-development and rehabilitation of inmates
Saturday April 21, 2018- Boat Trip:
National Library and Information Week concludes with a social activity: a boat trip to Martinique.
NALIP (Saint Lucia) encourages active participation from all Libraries and Information Units island wide in the observance of NLIW.
