The weekly pre-Cabinet press briefing on August 21st, devolved into a contentious exchange with HTS News4orce reporter Miguel Fevrier and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Tourism Mr. Dominic Fedee.
The heated discourse seemed to have erupted when Fevrier pressed Fedee to clarify recent speculation about a purported Cabinet Conclusion allegedly granting vehicle concessions to Sandals Resorts.
Mr. Fedee was a former senior manager at the globally renowned hotel chain up until entering public office in 2016.
The Minister with responsibility for Tourism demanded proof of the alleged Cabinet memo and vehemently declined to answer questions relating to the matter.
“…I will not answer to rumors and…gossip on the street…that can’t be a question, it’s not a credible question…” the Minister said.
The Sandals luxury vehicle concession allegations have made the rounds on the local talk show circuit – prompting reaction from the hotel, which has denied the assertions in a July press statement.
The back and forth between the HTS reporter and the government Minister lasted more than three minutes before another local reporter picked up the debate.
Mr. Fedee maintained his position affirming,
“…I think journalists are equally responsible for verifying information before you go just asking a Prime Minister anything…you need to do your research to substantiate your question…”
