The house of assembly passed the resolution to approve the emergency powers (disasters) Covid-19 order to grant the state extraordinary powers to curb the spread of the infectious disease within the island’s borders. This means the government has the legal authority to enforce 11pm-5am curfew as well as other measures to ensure public safety during the global pandemic. Although the opposition voted for the resolution, MPs warned against over-reach.
