The Herbal Cooperative (THC) strongly condemned a recent police operation in Garrand, Babonneau, where officers seized and destroyed cannabis valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars and arrested two men, whom the group described as farmers.
THC Chairman Andre de Caires characterized the police action as nothing less than an assault.
De Caires stated that the incident represents a significant setback for cannabis reform in Saint Lucia, especially given the government’s own movement toward legalization through the Cannabis and Hemp Industry Bill and related legislation.
He also expressed frustration at the timeline, noting that the previous administration had been conducting consultations and preparatory work.
De Caires expressed disappointment in what he sees as a contradictory approach to cannabis policy in Saint Lucia while comparing it to St Vincent and the Grenadines, which is hosting its second annual cannabis festival.
He expressed a deep sense of distrust and disillusionment with the current process in his final remarks.
