(PRESS RELEASE) – The last quarter-final of the tournament was played between Police FC and Massy Northern United.
Police showed up with no substitutes against a giant club who recently won the SLFA First Division Championship hence were destined to pay the price for their lack of preparation.
First half action saw both teams going head to head with Massy Northern United becoming frustrated at times as all their attempts on goal were well defended. Aramis Gilbert finally broke the dead lock in the 30th minute of play with a well worked strike pass the Police Officers’s goal keeper. At that juncture, Police FC was running out of steam begging for the half to end. Nicholas Lawrence of Massy Northern United scored on the brink of half time to end the half 2-0 in favour of his team.
Second half action was not kind to the Police Officers. Police FC played their heart with their 11 men who showed up keeping Massy Northern United at bay until the 51st minute of play when Melvin Doxilly of Massy Northern United found the back of the net to make it 3-0 in his team favour.
Massy Northern United finally made their first change bringing on the guy they call the “Goal Machine” Troy Eto Greenidge. From then on it looked like the defensive structure of Police FC had no real answers to keep this fresh striker at bay. Five goals were scored in under eight minutes from the 80th minute. First Troy Greenidge got one in then Nicholas Lawrence completed his brace in the 81st minute. Troy Greenidge lived up to his name scoring three consecutive goals in the 84th, 86th and 88th respectively. Police managed to score one goal in the 85th from a brilliant corner kick taken by Simeon Eristhee
Game ended 8-1 in favour of Massy Northern United.
