Marine police have recovered the body believed to be that of a still to be identified Spartan University lecturer at Cas en Bas beach. The find was made around midday on 2 April after a weekend long search effort was launched on 31 March from Cannelles beach off the Micoud / Vieux-Fort coast.
The suspected drowning victim, a male Indian national along with two other Spartan students were reportedly pulled into the sea by what sources have described as a ‘rogue wave’ while the three were site-seeing along the Cannelles coastline.
Roughly 60 km make up the land distance between Cas en Bas and Cannelles. The recovery effort that began off the island’s south east coast expanded by about 30 nautical miles due to powerful ocean currents.
The male and female drowning victims were found by Marine police a few hours after their disappearance last Saturday.
An official police statement on the extensive recovery operation is expected in the coming days.
