The Saint Lucia Fire Service is currently battling persistent hotspots at a major commercial building in Marisule.NThe Friday night blaze gutted the structure housing the main branch of computer world and several other businesses.
Units from four separate stations reached the scene just before 9:00 p.m.. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and active flames upon their arrival. Restricted access and hazardous materials complicated the high-priority operation. Crews utilized a multi-point attack to finally bring the rapid spread under control.
Officials report the building sustained extensive damage before teams contained the fire Saturday morning. The fire service warned that lithium-ion batteries created volatile conditions and a high risk of reignition.
Investigations into the cause of the inferno will begin once the site is fully cooled.
