24 hours after the August 21 pressroom breakdown between the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Tourism Mr. Dominic Fedee and HTS News4orce reporter Mr. Miguel Fevrier over a question concerning concessions to Sandals resorts – Mr. Fedee’s former employer, an ‘emergency’ press briefing was called on August 22.
Mr. Fedee summoned the local press corps and eventually answered the questioned and offered some clarity on the matter.
Despite the public backlash for the Minister’s initial reaction, Fedee defended his conduct, characterizing it as professional and doubled-down on his position not answer to rumors.
Mr. Fedee confirmed, the Cabinet led by Prime Minister the Hon. Allen Chastanet has approved concessions for four vehicles for Sandals resorts under the Tourism Incentives Act and is expected to table the Bill in Parliament.
The Tourism Minister described the question posed by HTS as ‘political propaganda’ and encouraged the press to ‘go to the source’ for verification. HTS Reporter Miguel Fevrier is also the current President of the Media Association of Saint Lucia. [Watch video]
