[Press Release] The Saint Lucia Jazz Festival has, over the years grown to be a spectacular event. The festival, in its 18th year, has gained international recognition and has delighted tens of thousands of people from Saint Lucia, the Diaspora and across the world.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, responsible for Culture and Creative Industries, stated that with Saint Lucia’s tremendous musical heritage, more events like this should be staged more regularly to bring in more economic fortune to the country.
“We recognize our local musicians who need exposure and we also felt the opportunity presented itself for us to have a variety of festivals that could attract visitors to our shores. Our music ranges from Jazz, Soul and Reggae. We believe that overtime it is going to give much exposure to our Local
Musicians and Artist therefore busting visitor arrivals that foster economic growth.”
Minister of Culture and Local Government, Sen. Hon. Fortuna Belrose, has hailed the recent staging of the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, as a “great event”, which was well organized with first class musical productions.
“I think it brings economic value to the country. People from overseas are coming to Saint Lucia just for the Festival. The numbers will go up if the level of first class musical productions continue. There are a series of events planned so you are not easily bored.”
The first St. Lucia Jazz Festival was held in 1992 as an initiative to extend the tourist season and increase foreign exchange in Saint Lucia.
