The Saint Lucia Premier League T20 ended in emphatic fashion on May 23 as the City Blasters defeated the Choiseul Craft Masters by 73 runs at the Francis “Baba” Lastic Grounds in Gros Islet to complete an unbeaten title-winning season.
After topping the group stage, the Blasters booked their place in the final with a Qualifier 1 victory over Gros Islet. Choiseul, who entered the playoffs in fourth, battled through the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 to reach the decider.
Rain reduced the contest to 18 overs per side, but the Blasters’ batting lineup dominated. Ryshon Williams smashed 52 off 17 balls, while Stephen Naitram scored 41, Vernillius Gabriel added 37, and McKenny Clarke chipped in with 35 as the City side piled up 219. Alvinus Simon led the bowling effort for Choiseul with 3/36.
In reply, the Craft Masters never recovered after losing Alick Athanaze for a first-ball duck. McKenny Clarke starred with the ball, taking 4/10 in 2.5 overs to dismantle the chase. Junior Henry made 29 from 13 deliveries and Bronté Bess added 33, but Choiseul were dismissed for 146.
The victory sealed an undefeated season for the City Blasters, who celebrated their SPL crown well into the night.
