Chakadan’s death ruled an unlawful killing

Magistrate Robert Innocent has delivered his judgment and a coroner’s inquest into the death of Chakadan Daniel has concluded that the young man’s demise was the result of “death by unlawful police killing”.
Police said Daniel was found hanging in his Micoud Police Station Cell in October 2013.
His family, along with community and human rights activists mounted a relentless campaign for an independent, thorough probe into his death.
For a grieving mother and father, Friday’s judgment is the first major step in securing justice for their son.
