CCJ RULING GIVES ST. LUCIAN A VOTE IN BAJAN ELECTIONS

Following an unprecedented Sunday Sitting, the Caribbean Court of Justice has ruled that a Saint Lucian professor resident in Barbados should be registered as a voter for the May 24th General Elections.

The chief elections officer was given a deadline of midday on May 14th to ensure that the academic was a registered elector, or face jail time for contempt of court.

It’s a landmark ruling that will affect other Commonwealth citizens resident in Barbados for the qualifying period, who are also claiming a right to be registered as voters under that country’s laws.
