AVE MARIA GIRLS LEARN ABOUT CAREERS IN ICT

Students of the Ava Maria Primary School were informed of pathways to careers in the ICT sector on international girls in ICT day.

On 26 April, telecommunications provider Flow, the Department of Sustainable Development and the ICT Association visited the school to inform the girls of the job opportunities available in the science and tech sector.

Flow communication specialist Terry Finistere says in a male dominated industry, girls need some inspiration to explore career opportunities in the digital sector.

Flow invited science and technology officer Danielle Gordon and Ave Maria Primary alum and Flow product manager for broadband, Adriana Mitchel-Gideon to deliver a presentation to the girls.

Gordon says ICT is critical to most of the jobs in today’s labor market.

The theme for the 2018 girls in ICT is “expand horizons, change attitudes”.

The day calls for society to rally for equal access for girls to ICT.
