August 18th 2015 House Debates Historic Constitutional Reform

The report of the constitutional reform commission was tabled in parliament and debated on Tuesday.
The report, described as ‘voluminous’ by St. Lucia’s prime minister Dr. Kenny Anthony, lists 190 recommendations which span the gamut from capital punishment and term limits for the prime minister to the declaration of assets and liabilities of political parties and same-sex marriage.
While MP’S singled out items which they say need further discussion, most agreed that reform is necessary.
The debate was held on the first anniversary of the death of the late Madame justice Suzie D’Auvergne who led the commission.
